Lopsided Truth

by Jill Blake

truth
shifts to trust
with one required
base pair reassignment

trutH;
drop the grand Hoax
shush the lies to self and other
sink back into your primordial slime
reorganize, safely within your self-made cocoon

truSt;
add the ultimate Sacrifice
to give up who you are
emerge with naked wings exposed
trusting-self to know, who is/is not that kind of hungry

trust

Subtype 1 – truST;
seekers are not made for trust
they have a little extra need
they seek Self-Trust
thus, a different species entirely

Subtype 2 – truf;
beware, with this species
there comes a risky mutation.
replaces a base pair, ST
with a cocky single, F

i wonder if
a single nucleotide for the price of a base pair
is a good-for-evolution
kind of trade

I guess I will ask
the lopsided
butterfly

oh look,
it flew away

wait,
it was never here

F, is for Fictional
Fictional truF,
keep your eye out
for this lopsided breed

About the author…

Jill Mason Blake is a curious woman and mum who has won numerous Wife of the Year awards. She enjoys getting lost in the woods with her dog, (pretending to do) daily yoga, writing razor sharp poetry and watching movies on which she has no background information. She has worked as a community organizer, mindfulness coach, and high school health teacher. You can find her now in her favorite job, shelving books at the public library, a.k.a. ‘her daily date with Dewey.’
